IIT Delhi holds 55th convocation ceremony; confers degrees to 2,656 graduates
IIT Delhi Convocation 2024: The institute awarded 1,001 BTech, 525 MTech, 113 MBA and 481 PhD degrees. Among the PhD graduates, 42% are women.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi conducted the 55th convocation ceremony today, August 10, 2024. A total of 2,656 degrees were awarded to the students who graduated this year under various programmes. Out of all the students who graduated, 25% are women.
As per the data shared by the institute, a total of 481 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees were awarded this year, representing a 35% increase from the previous year and among the PhD graduates, 42% are women. Additionally, the institute conferred 525 Master of Technology (MTech) and 113 Master of Business Administration (MBA). The institute also awarded 1,001 Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees.
This year also marked the first graduates in two new UG programmes—BTech in Materials Engineering and B.Tech. in Engineering and Computational Mechanics—and four new PG programmes including MTech in Machine Intelligence and Data Science, MTech in Biomolecular and Bioprocess Engineering, MS(R) in Transportation Safety and Injury Prevention, and MS(R) in Automotive Research and Tribology.
Youngest and oldest graduates
As per the official press release, the convocation of 2024 celebrated Kaveesh Kumar as the youngest graduate, having earned his B.Tech degree at less than 20 years old, while Shri Sunil Kumar Gulati, at 63 years old, was recognized as the oldest graduate with his PhD.
The event also featured 28 international students receiving their degrees, comprising 23 MTech graduates, 4 PhD awardees, and 1 MS Research graduate. Among these international graduates, four came from Sudan and Ethiopia, three from Tanzania and Uganda, and two from Bangladesh and Burkina Faso, with the remaining students representing various other countries including the USA and Venezuela.
Programme-wise total graduates
Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIT Delhi, Harish Salve, presented the alumni awards to the alumni and the institute medals to the graduating students. Programme programme-wise number of degrees, diplomas awarded by the institute is given in the table below.
