Kashmir Schools: The extension aims to ensure the safety and well being of students and staff amidst extremely weather conditions in the valley.

NEW DELHI: The Kashmir Directorate of School Education has extended school holidays considering the persistent adverse weather conditions in the region till March 4. Schools in the valley were earlier scheduled to reopen on March 1 as per DOE order, the winter break has been extended and physical classes will commence from Monday, March 4.
The extension aims to ensure the safety and well being of the students and staff amidst potentially challenging weather conditions in Kashmir division.
According to the latest directive, both government and private schools in the Kashmir will begin classes up to the higher secondary level from March 4. With significant snowfall predicted for the valley, this decision was made in accordance with the Meteorological Department's advice.

"In view of the Meteorological Department's weather advisory predicting heavy snowfall in the valley, it is hereby ordered that classwork in all government and recognised private schools of the Kashmir Division up to the higher secondary level shall commence on March 4, 2024." the Kashmir School Education Director said in an order, according to PTI.
Notably, following a three-month winter break that was announced from November 28 to February 29 in a progressive manner for students in primary through upper secondary classes, all the schools were scheduled to resume routine class work for students. However, the teaching staff resumed their duties from February 21 while the physical was announced to resume from March 1, 2024.
In certain places, particularly in the higher regions of North, Central, and South Kashmir, as well as the Pir Panjal range in the Jammu division, significant to extremely heavy snowfall is predicted for March 1 and 2, 2024.
