Study Abroad: British Council announces winners of UK Alumni Awards in India

NEW DELHI: British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, felicitated four Indians with the Study UK Alumni Awards 2023-24. The council presented the award to the alumni of UK universities in four categories – Science and Sustainability Award, Culture and Creativity Award, Social Action Award, and Business and Innovation Award.

Sandhya Sukumara who studied at the University of East Anglia was felicitated with the the Science and Sustainability Award. Sukumaran is a scientist at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and specialises in marine genomics and aquaculture innovations. Kajri Babbar, a filmmaker, theatre artist, and an alumnus of the Arts University Bournemouth, bagged the Culture and Creativity Award.

The Social Action, and Business and Innovation awards were presented to Gaurav Brahmbhatt, an alumnus of Aston University, and Purva Aggarwal, who had studied at University of Hertfordshire, respectively. Brahmbhatt is a founding member of HCAH India, a healthcare firm. Aggarwal is the founder of Good Good Piggy, an EdFintech startup.

British Council presents the Study UK Alumni Awards to those who have studied in UK universities to recognise their achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. In its 10th edition of the Study UK Alumni Awards, the council received almost 1,500 applications from 100 countries.

British Council country director Alison Barrett said, “We are delighted to celebrate the exceptional work done by the UK alumni from India. Our heartiest congratulations to the winners and all the finalists for effectively contributing to the society through their work. Their achievements serve as inspiration to others and highlight how global education in the UK can create opportunities that spark brighter futures. Through their contributions, they reinforce the enduring bonds between the UK and India, nurturing the Living Bridge between our countries”.
