10.60 lakh students get certificates, toppers awarded at 2nd skill convocation ceremony 2023

Dharmendra Pradhan, PM Modi, Rajeev Chandrasekhar addressed the event. UGC chairman, AICTE chairman, school education secretary were present.

NEW DELHI: 10,60,000 students across various categories of skill development received certificates and toppers were awarded during the second skill convocation ceremony 2023 today. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan presented the awards to the toppers.

The students took skill-based education from Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), short term skill training, apprenticeship, niesbud, and other schemes.

While addressing the event, the union education minister informed that next year the government is trying to introduce new textbooks for Classes 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 11. Under the National Education Policy (NEP), it has been recommended to make skilling a part of education Class 6 onwards, he said. Pradhan also said that Delhi University will also convert skills into courses. He also added that the government recently launched skill india digital portal and around 4 crore students have registered on the portal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the event virtually and talked about India’s growth in skill education and development. He congratulated students on their achievements.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman T G Sitharam, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, Sanjay kumar Javin, and Rajeev Chandrashekhar attended the event.

Atul Kumar Tiwari gave the inaugural address of the second Dikshant Samaroh 2023 and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

During the ceremony, students of DGT Craftsman Training Scheme (CGT) 2 year course toppers were awarded. A total of 16 lakh appeared for the exam while 14 lakh passed and the pass percentage stood at 88%. Students from West Bengal, Kerala topped the exam.

In 10 trades, students from Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Bihar received the awards.

The awards for CTS special toppers for disabled students category were conferred upon two students while CTS special toppers for new age courses were given to three students including two from Odisha.

The awards for women in hard trades were received by three females including two from Uttar Pradesh 2. Students from Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan won the CITS overall toppers awards.
