BHU English assistant professor Vivek Singh selected for Fulbright fellowship

Fulbright fellow 2023 Vivek Singh will conduct research and teach Indian languages at University of Mississippi.
NEW DELHI: Vivek Singh, Banaras Hindu University’s assistant professor in the Department of English has been selected for Fulbright Fellowship. The fellowship has been awarded for the current academic year 2023-24. The fellowship is for nine months. During this time, Singh will research at the University of Mississippi. Along with this, he will also teach Indian languages at the university.
Commenting on this opportunity, Singh said he considers this as an opportunity to serve as the Indian Cultural Ambassador in the United States. He wants to strengthen the language and cultural ties between India and the United States and study American social and cultural diversity while promoting Indian language and culture, he added.
What is Fulbright programme?
The Fulbright programme is an international education exchange programme. The programme is conducted by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) with the aim of educational exchange between the US and other countries. Over 155 countries participate in the Fulbright programme. In India, the Fulbright programme is administered by United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF).

As per the official website of USIEF, 8,000 new Fulbright grants are awarded in India annually, out of which over 350 are Fulbright fellowships. The application process for Fulbright scholarships includes evaluating past academic records and leadership skills. The Fulbright fellowships are awarded in the following categories:
