Over 70,000 score above 95% in CBSE Class 12; DU cut off marks likely to be highly competitive

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the much-awaited CBSE Class 12 results on Friday. Over 70,004 students scored more than 95% marks. Last year, only 38,686 students were able to score more than 95% marks .

This steep rise in the Class 12 percentage is likely to resonate with the DU cut off percentage. Last year, the DU cut off was as high as 100% for three programmes and 99 or more than that for many other programmes. So, looking at the unprecedented results of Class 12th this year the competition would be no different, if not harsher.

This year, the passing percentage of Class 12 students is 99.37%, which is much higher than last year's pass percentage of 88.4%.

The Indian Express quoted Rajiv Gupta, DU admission committee chairman, as saying, “From whatever information we are getting right now, it appears that the cut-offs will increase. But more can be said once the results have been properly analysed. The colleges will now have to analyse and decide. We are also waiting for the remaining state boards to release their results, after which we will have more clarity.”

University of Delhi offers around 70,000 seats in various merit-based undergraduate programmes. The Delhi University admits students based on the marks of the candidates in the Class 12th examination. Each year, lakhs of students register themselves to get a seat in DU colleges with more than 70% students standalone from the CBSE board.

"It will be studied. It will increase more than last year but whether the increase will be 0.5 per cent or one per cent and for which course, it will have to be seen. Also, some popular courses like B.Com (Hons), BA (Hons) English, Political Science (Hons) are likely to see higher cut-offs," Rama Sharma, principal, Hansraj College told PTI .

The first Delhi University cut off 2021 will be announced between September 7 and 10. The DU admission 2021 will be done on the basis of the cut-offs calculated as per the last year's practice. DU cutoff 2021 will be prepared based on Delhi University's best of four calculations, which includes the highest score of four subjects in the Class 12 exam.

The registration process of Delhi University for UG courses will begin on August 2. With many pending important examinations like NEET, JNUEE and CUCET , Delhi University is expected to receive a high number of applications this year. In 2020 also, many examinations were not held on time, due to the Covid-19 pandemic which subsequently resulted in huge numbers of applications and cut off marks as high as 100%. This year is going to be nothing different.

Many state boards have announced the Class 12 results, while Tripura and Uttar Pradesh are set to announce their Class 12th results on July 31.
