The Vice-President of India CP Radhakrishnan, who is also the Chancellor of Panjab University, has formed a three-member search-cum-selection committee to appoint the next vice chancellor of the university.
The Vice President has also approved a four-month extension to Renu Cheema Vig, current vice chancellor of Panjab University. She will now be in charge of the VC post until July 2026.
Panjab University's VC current term was ending on March 29, 2026.

The all-women committee will have Lt Gen (Rtd) Madhuri Kannitkar, VC Maharashtra Health University, chairperson as its member, including Shashikala Wanzari, VC, NIEPA, New Delhi, and Vibha Tandon, director, CSIR-IICB Kolkata.
The three-member selection committee has formed under Section 10 of the Panjab University Act, 1947.
“The Search-cum-Selection Committee shall submit the panel of names to the Hon'ble Vice-President of India & Chancellor, Panjab University as soon as possible,” according to an official notification.
