ICAR’s IARI enters QS University Rankings 2026 in agriculture, forestry category

In a first, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)'s Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has entered the QS World University Rankings 2026 in the subject category of agriculture and forestry.
The institute has been placed in the 151–200 band, which features only four Indian institutions. Alongside IARI, the four universities in the top band include Banaras Hindu University, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, and the University of Delhi.
London-based QS Quacquarelli Symonds, known for its university rankings, has published the 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
IARI is commonly known as the Pusa Institute and is India's national institute for agricultural research, education, and extension.

QS University Rankings 2026
Notably, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delh i has secured the 36th position globally in the engineering and technology category, followed by IIT Bombay at 42nd and IIT Madras at 62nd. Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur are ranked 64th and 84th, respectively.
In the Arts and Humanities category, the University of Delhi secured the 231st rank; in the Life Sciences & Medicine category, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was ranked 217th; and in the Natural Sciences category, IIT Bombay achieved the 78th position.
Furthermore, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode achieved the 78th spot globally in the subject category of Business and Management.
The QS Subject Rankings evaluate institutions globally using criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, and international collaboration. The rankings assess over 21,049 academic programmes offered by more than 1,900 universities, covering 55 disciplines and five broad faculty areas.
