The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently announced that the post graduate (PG) medical diploma programmes will be shut across India. This will be applicable after a final batch is admitted in the upcoming academic year, 2026-27. In oyher words, from 2027-28 session, no new student will be admitted to the two-year course.

5,000 additional PG medical seats will be created during 2025-26 to 2028-29. The cost ceiling has also been enhanced to Rs 1.50 crore per seat.

MCC will allot seats to candidates based on their merit and choices filled during the counselling process. Candidates participating in NEET PG counselling 2026 have to pay a non-refundable registration fee along with a refundable security deposit. For 50% AIQ and Central Universities, the registration fee is Rs 1,000 for General category candidates and Rs 500 for SC, ST and OBC candidates, with security deposits of Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively. 

For Deemed Universities, candidates of all categories have to pay a Rs 5,000 non-refundable registration fee and a Rs 2 lakh refundable security deposit.

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has published the provisional Assam NEET PG 2026 merit list for state quota seats on the official website.

The NMC has released the NEET PG 2026 seat matrix for postgraduate medical courses across government, private and deemed medical institutions.
