AP govt signs agreement with NIELIT to set up first South India campus in Amaravati
Andhra Pradesh’s NIELIT campus, set to come up in Amaravati, will boost AI, quantum tech and semiconductor skills. NIELIT Deemed University currently has 11 campuses.
The Andhra Pradesh government has signed an agreement with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) today, February 20, 2026, to set up its first South India campus in Amaravati. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu described it as an important step in strengthening the state’s technology and skilling ecosystem.
Naidu’s social media post said: “The Government of Andhra Pradesh has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) to establish its first South India campus in Amaravati. The skill development arm of MeitY, NIELIT Deemed to be University, will strengthen AP’s journey as a hub for Quantum and AI education. This partnership will also explore skilling based strengthening of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.”
NIELIT, which functions under the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), will use the new campus to expand training and education in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. The initiative is part of Andhra Pradesh’s larger plan to position itself as a hub for advanced technology education and innovation.

NIELIT Amaravati: AI, quantum computing focus
Beyond AI and quantum computing, the collaboration will also focus on skill development to support India’s growing semiconductor sector. By equipping students and professionals with industry-relevant expertise, the state hopes to build a strong talent pipeline that meets future technology demands.
The agreement was signed in the presence of senior officials, including NIELIT Director General Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi. The upcoming campus is expected to open up fresh opportunities for students in the region and attract industry partnerships.
NIELIT’s main campus is in Ropar, Punjab and it already has 11 constituent campuses, in Agartala, Aizawl, Ajmer (Kekri), Aurangabad, Calicut, Gorakhpur, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Patna, and Srinagar.
