IIT Delhi, CRIS join hands to enhance railway infrastructure and safety in India
IIT Delhi researchers and faculty from mechanical engineering, computer science, and management studies will focus on improving security, safety, and scheduling in Indian Railways.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi sign an agreement with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to advance railway infrastructure, safety, and operational efficiency across India by leveraging IIT Delhi’s expertise in research and technology.
As per the official press release, IIT Delhi researchers and faculty members from the departments of mechanical engineering, computer science, and management studies will work on projects focused on improving security, safety, and scheduling within Indian Railways.
The partnership will also focus on enhancing intermodal connectivity and revenue optimisation for the railway network. The institute said that this partnership is expected to make Indian Railways a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced organisation.
According to the official press release, the agreement highlights IIT Delhi's commitment to supporting national infrastructure through collaborative research and innovation. By connecting academia and industry, IIT Delhi and CRIS are establishing a standard for research-driven partnerships that advance development in India’s transportation sector.

Speaking about the collaboration, dean of corporate relations at IIT Delhi, Preeti Ranjan Panda, remarked, "This partnership with CRIS is a major step towards elevating India's railway infrastructure. By combining groundbreaking research with practical application, we aim to address some of the most pressing challenges in Indian Railways. Our commitment lies in fostering an environment of innovation that yields real-world solutions."
Managing Director at CRIS, GVL Satya Kumar, stated, "The collaboration with IIT Delhi aligns with CRIS’s mission to incorporate advanced technologies for Indian Railways. With the research expertise of IIT Delhi, we are optimistic that these projects will bring considerable advancements in railway operations and enhance passenger experience."
