NEW DELHI: More than 1,400 students from Delhi Government schools have qualified for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate NEET-UG 2024, as announced by the education minister, Atishi, at a press conference. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the results for NEET-UG on June 4.

Atishi said that 1,414 Delhi government school students cleared the NEET-UG exam this year, marking an increase from 2020, when 569 students had qualified. The number of qualifiers is almost two-and-a-half times higher, reflecting an improvement in the performance of students from government schools, as stated by Atishi.
Atishi also highlighted the achievements of the BR Ambedkar school of specialised excellence, a flagship project of the Delhi government. Out of 255 students from the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) stream of these schools who appeared for NEET-UG, 243 qualified, indicating a 95 percent success rate.
The NEET results have generated massive controversy this year and now, a panel has been set up to review grace marks given to 1,563 candidates to make up for “loss of time” during the exam. The NEET cut-offs have risen and there are as many as 67 NEET toppers in place of the usual one or two. This has prompted court cases and thousands of students to allege ‘NEET scam’ and demand a re-examination. Members of opposition parties have also weighed in.
The NTA attributed this year’s higher success rate to several factors, including an easier exam, an increase in registrations, a question with two correct answers, and grace marks given due to disruptions during the examination period. Out of the 20.38 lakh students who registered for the NEET UG 2024 exam, 11.45 lakh candidates qualified.
The NEET UG 2024 exam was conducted on May 5, across 557 cities in India and 14 cities internationally. The provisional answer key was released on May 29, and the objection window was closed on June 1. The final answer key was issued on June 3. NTA released the results on June 4.
