NEW DELHI: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has asked institutions and students to register on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and create Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID respectively, calling it mandatory under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The council has issued guidelines for the educational institutions, universities, boards, state pharmacy councils, and students for using multiple channels for a smooth registration process.
ABC portal provides a facility to open a unique or individual digital account. The major functions of ABC are registration of HEls, opening, closure and validation of academic accounts of students, credit verification, credit accumulation, credit transfer or redemption of students.
The step-by-step guide shared by PCI assists institutions and students with the process of generating ABC IDs for students through various channels including academic institution portals, DigiLocker, UMANG, ABC portal, and UDISE+ mode.
ABC IDs of students
Academic institutions have been provided with two distinct options for creating ABC lDs in bulk. They can opt for the NAD, a specialized portal dedicated to managing academic records, for bulk ID generation. Alternatively, they can leverage dedicated APIs designed for facilitating the creation of bulk ABC IDs.
The benefits of creating ABC IDs, as enlisted in the guide, are seamless academic tracking from Class 1, monitoring of academic progress, enabling educators to highlight subjects where students need to improve, freedom of multiple entry and exit, long-term credit storage, and credit transfer.
