Shanghai Rankings 2024: VIT secures second position in India; moves to top 600 globally
Vellore Institute of Technology is positioned at 501-600, with IIT Delhi and the University of Delhi tied in the 601-700 range.

NEW DELHI: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has been ranked as the second-best university in India by the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) from Shanghai Ranking. This global ranking has placed VIT in the 501-600 band worldwide, an improvement from its previous position in the 601-700 range in 2022.
The Shanghai ARWU evaluates universities based on academic and research performance indicators, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes, Field Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in Nature and Science, papers indexed in major citation indices, and the per capita academic performance of an institution.
As per the data shared by the institute, the Shanghai ARWU shows several Indian institutions' standings globally. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is ranked in the 401-500 band. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and the University of Delhi (DU) are both ranked in the 601-700 range. The Homi Bhabha National Institute is placed in the 701-800 band.
