Tamil Nadu govt declares holiday for schools in four districts amid heavy rainfall

NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu government declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, educational institutions in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts on Monday due to heavy rainfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of Tamil Nadu will witness heavy rainfall over the next seven days.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts of Tamil Nadu on December 18.
Rainfall continues at night in the Thoothukudi district, and 40 lakes in the Kovilpatti area have reached their full capacity. According to IMD predictions, heavy rain was expected to occur in one or two places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi.
The Tamil Nadu districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram are expected to experience heavy rain on December 19. According to IMD forecasts, there is a chance that thunderstorms and lightning might strike in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 19.
In the Thoothukudi district, Kovilpatti, Ettayapuram, Vilathikulam, Kalugumalai, Kayathar, Kadambur, Vembar, Surangudi, and other places have seen nonstop rain since Sunday morning.

The rivers and lakes surrounding Kovilpatti are overflowing with water as a result of this intense rain. Additionally, sandbags and JCB machines were employed to block the water after it began to run out of the river in the Koosalipatti and Inam Maniyachi districts due to rainfall.
