The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently announced that the post graduate (PG) medical diploma programmes will be shut across India. This will be applicable after a final batch is admitted in the upcoming academic year, 2026-27. In oyher words, from 2027-28 session, no new student will be admitted to the two-year course.

5,000 additional PG medical seats will be created during 2025-26 to 2028-29. The cost ceiling has also been enhanced to Rs 1.50 crore per seat.
